Happy Christmas!

I can’t believe how fast time has gone recently – and that it is nearly Christmas! HOW?!

I have been really busy recently, trying to make the most of my time at work, and maximising any potential opportunities I have left. At the end of January my maternity cover job ends (the one I love!) which has been two days per week for the last year. Trying not to get too emotional about it (and definitely not succeeding!) so struggling with the sadness that comes with leaving a great job and an even better team. This means that at the end of January I will only be working one day per week in a Volunteer Coordinator role (very cool) and then having a 0 hours contract in my other job, which is…difficult.

My other job has actually given me a lot of hours ( all weekend based, sigh) for January, so at least my pay check shouldn’t suffer TOO much…but I am definitely feeling the stress/ misery / heart break at having to start the job hunt again. ITS TOO SOON I feel like screaming! But, alas, it has to be. The job I am doing that is on 0 hours is frustrating – I like the role and am good at it, I just got given a kinda of promotion ( in title only) to be coordinating the volunteer team there too – meaning more responsibility, recruitment, creating and running training programs, trips, scheduling new training, bringing in new opportunities for current volunteers etc – so much opportunity and flexibility to bring in new initiatives and really revitalise and improve the existing program, and I am SO excited about it. But, they aren’t giving me enough hours to do the work. Leaving me with the dilemma of not doing enough or not doing it well enough, or having to do work unpaid from home. Neither of which is really an option. Its one of those awkward growing-pains type stages- if you get what I mean? I just feel a little in limbo. Almost settled, but also definitely not. Almost stable, but nowhere near. Almost ready to move out and be a grown up, but with no stability I am also not. Its hard. Hard to keep plodding on sometimes when you think you are going forward but then end up just as far back as before.

Something I am really struggling with at the moment is to not compare myself to others – either my peers, or my work colleagues, or just some randomer on the train. I feel like I am not doing well enough at work, or I should have a better job, or I should get better paid, or have a boyfriend, or be going on more dates, or have moved out, or be investing in a house, or be going out drinking more, or be hitting the gym and losing weight, or have better eyebrows or WHATEVER the situation is, I just am feeling a lot like I am not good enough. I have some incredible friends and family, and am really trying hard to absorb the mantra, and remind myself, that we aren’t all living in one path -there may be a beginning and an end for everyone, but (cliché as it sounds) the journey between the two really is a rollercoaster, with a million pit stops along the way, which are different for every person. I can even have the exact same goals as the person sat next to me, but I can reach them in my own time, following my own journey along the way. And even typing this makes me want to vomit in my mouth, it so cliché and over-motivational, but it is also true. I can write all this, and know it to be true, but that doesn’t mean I know how to implement that in my daily life. but, I am trying. And I will keep trying.

I want to get to the stage where I am just, happy with myself. With how I look, and how I act, how I am working, how I feel about myself, all of it. And I am sure that I will get there, I hope I will, but I sure as hell am not there yet.

I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and new year, if I don’t get around to posting between now and then (possible)

A step towards a brighter future? Day 12, 2017

Okay, I know I missed two days, and they weren’t even a weekend- but they have been a bit of a rollercoaster, and I haven’t had my laptop with me and didn’t think that I could do them justice typing them out on my ever failing phone.

Today I went to therapy for the first time in years, maybe even a decade. I went when I was younger, but decided that the stresses and strains of my life currently are just a little too much to handle. I was so so nervous to go, and worried because it is expensive too, but I think for now it is an investment in myself that I deserve, and need, for a while at least. It was so nice to just talk, and have someone listen and not feel guilty for burdening them with my thoughts and stresses and worries, and I genuinely came out feeling a weight had been lifted- not because of any major breakthrough, but just being able to rant and talk and not feel like I am causing someone else stress because of it. And actually, when I listed everything that has happened to me in the last 18 months / 2 years, it really is a lot. And I really have done well to keep plodding on this far, and its no BLOODY WONDER that I am struggling now, I am carrying around a whole lot that I never give myself credit for.

So, today is a day of self appreciation I guess. She said something that made my insides smile, that I was a survivor, that I have done so well to plough on through everything I have; and you know what? SHES BLOODY RIGHT. So, well done me. Congratulations me. Hooray for H! Finally, I can see when I say it all outloud at once that yes, I bloody have done well to keep it together and keep going, and I am totally entitled to  need a bit of space to  let that all out. Now, I am not trying to elude to some big giant “issue” that has occurred, if you follow this blog you probably know most of what I mean, lots of little things added together, but there is more going on that is just a little too personal to write here, ( I know, shocker). I would write more about what was said, but I know that a few people who actually know me in the real world (HELLO FRIENDS) may read this, and that’s something that I want to be kept a bit more private, for now at least. There is no big dilemma, just the fact that I wanted some advice on how to cope with a few things, and coping strategies for when I cant. And its also so nice to be able to talk, and have someone listen, and just, free up your thoughts. I came out, got home and bawled for a while, and am now feeling like a tired and tearful zombie – but only because I haven’t said all that outloud at once before, and because I feel exposed and confused and sad, but also so free and relieved and happy, so I am excited. Now I just have to find a way to fund it!

One thing that was interesting, and maybe I should do a whole post on this tomorrow (or soon) is the way that Crohns came up, as something which causes stress in my life. I never really acknowledge to myself how scary crohns is. Because I know how debilitating it can be, and what a huge effect it can have on my life and on everyone around me – and that it can come back at any time, any day, for any length of time – and that level of uncertainty is very hard to deal with. And I didn’t realise quite how much it still impacted me, until she asked me more about it today. Normally I gloss over it, “oh I’m in remission now”, or “yes but I am just nervous about the doctors appointment” (which FYI I am, 25th January here I come…) but also ,maybe it does impact me more than I ever thought. hmm. something to ponder. Think maybe this is something that needs to be explored further on this blog, but not today. Too drained!

Be happy, Keep smiling, and Keep going!

Gosh, life is confusing. Day 9,2017.

I didn’t blog over the weekend – one day was because I forgot, another was an active choice, to spend my time enjoying the day rather than writing about it.

This weekend I went home with my boyfriend to his parents – which was really lovely. They have a beautiful home, in a lovely place, and it’s always like a mini holiday being there. But once again I fought with my boyfriend, which is wearing me, and him, down. I love him very much, and I know he loves me, but we are just going through a clashing phase – and it’s no fun at all. We decided to put moving in together on hold – which I guess is sensible but I’m a little heartbroken over it. I hope that we can get back on track quickly, and move forward with it 🙂
So today I found out I got through one stage of job application, although decided not to continue as don’t think the job was right for me- but it’s still reassuring. I also did some more applications, but nothing that exciting. I wish that I knew what my future held, because it’s all so unsure and scary right now.

Sometimes I really feel like I’m driven and have something to offer, and others, I can’t understand why people put up with ms. I’m negative, make mistakes, and generally am feeling like a A failure. So, so. Not sure where I was going with that train of thought, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels it. I just want cuddles and support and then feel bad for wanting it and being such a draining burden on everyone. Golly.

Guess the only plan is chin up andfingers  crossed tomorrow goes better.
Be happy

Next interview down. Confusion levels up. Day 5, 2017

Me again.

Okay, so I didn’t manage to write a post yesterday – but that was just because everything went a bit mad with the job things, and I had to do interview prep and basically am just making excuses for failing at day 4 of my “post-a-day”. But, I am back online and at it again – so if it is just one day here or there, I will cut myself some slack!

Today I had an interview with a recruitment company, which is something I am considering going to work in, although I have no experience in it before – the money and career progression, and ability to work hard and earn more really appeals to me, that bit more control over my work. Plus, I always work hard and try to over-achieve, so I may as well get paid extra for it! I was really nervous but the interviewer was lovely, she really put me at ease and I think it went really well; and hopefully my answers were good. I will be interested to see if she thought the same and I get invited back again! However, the hours (12 hours days!) is something that really made me pause for that. Do I really want that? Is the money worth it? Do I care enough? And also…could my body take it? Because I don’t think so. Often a half day is enough to wipe me out, I am genuinely not sure that my fatigued, crohns- ridden little body could cope. So, a consideration. And potentially not the job for me, but good practice.

Currently I am in the midst of trying to get hold of one of the recruiters helping me, who wants to fire me off to more interviews tomorrow, but I am pushing back to try and just set them up for next week – 10am tomorrow is not enough time to prepare, not feel focussed and ready. However my recruiter, who I am sure is awesome at his job, is very pushy and doesn’t like taking no for an answer!

I am still stuck in the midst of a conundrum (great word, well used me) of what to do. I don’t want to feel like a failure, like I gave up to early, like I didn’t try hard enough for museums. But. I just want to move on, to succeed in something, to move out, to earn money, to feel like I accomplishing something genuine and real and tangible. And to move to London. To live in one place full time. And join a gym, and a dance club and so much more. To get back so many aspects of my life that I just don’t feel that I have right now in this perpetually “paused” state that my life seems to have undertaken. It is a big decision, and a scary one, and maybe neither answer will feel right, so I just have to do my best. Like always.

Another day, another ramble.

Until next time,

Interviews done, motivation up. Day 3, 2017

I almost feel like I am writing a ships blog, with the whole “day 3 into the unknown, 2017 thus far…” feel in the title. But I hope that writing the days will help me to keep on track with my “post a day” plan.

I was hoping to upload some photos into this post, to make it a bit less boring – that is something ELSE I need to improve on. Post more, write succinctly, add imagery – ie redo my entire blog writing style, after all, who wants to read these rambles at the best of times, may as well make them pretty!

So, the big dilemma of today is JOBS (can refer to yesterdays post if you wanted to see an original mini-rant on the topic, but feel free to just join in with this one today :P). I am at a crossroads in my career – or maybe the starting block, or a starting block with multiple lanes to run down? Not quite sure which is the correct metaphor, but in essence I have to get a job and start my career and I have no idea which way to turn, or how to do it. Which is stressful. Anyway, today I had a great interview with a “sales and recruitment” recruiter- who focus on getting graduates into these kind of jobs, and YIPPEE they liked me, and have agreed to help me, and I am infact sat by my phone now waiting for them to call to discuss opportunities starting ASAP. Which is great, and exciting, and gives me the potential to earn money, move out, get on with my life. All yay…..

…But. And its quite a bit but (cheeky, not in that way 😉 ) It will mean kind of giving up on the museum thing. I  mean, it wont. I will still keep an eye out for museum stuff, and hope that the new experience and job skills may help in the future. But, I kinda feel like I am failing by not carrying on with the museum stuff alone. By not being strong enough to just say “nope this is what I want, and this is what I am going to do”. But I have done that, for about 3 and a half months now. And that’s a long time to fail, and to have no job and no money. And so I think I might do it. Might take this other job, to give myself experience, and money and move forward. And hope that one day I can get back to the museum stuff. But what if I cant? Am I letting myself down? My family down?  Will people judge me? is this a mistake? Will I hate it? Who even knows. Argh. Its a big weight on my mind, and I am not good at decisions at the best of times!

Anyway, crossroads/ wonky starting block/ confused little life path. All must be overcome. At least I remembered to blog, I supposed.

Too much confusion, too few plans. Day 2, 2017

Afternoon All,

So, here we are determined with my second consecutive post (been a while since this has happened!) and not really sure what to say. thus far, I have had a lazy morning, and a brilliant lunch and afternoon talking and laughing with two of my besties, one of whom went home to Belgium today, and the other who will be emigrating in just a few weeks. So, squeezing in a many laughs as possible today.

But, that isn’t of much interest. So, I thought I would revert to using this blog as how I originally intended it – to thrash out my fears and stresses, and hope that somehow that helps me towards a conclusion, a decision, a bit of peace of mind. Buckle up, here we go.

In essence, there is so much insecurity and change in my life right now, and I am not very good at coping with it all . Here is a cheeky list (if you don’t like lists, what is wrong with you?!) of the things buzzing around in my head now:

  • JOB. or Lack of it. EUGH. I know what I want to do, but it just isn’t happening, and that is bloody hard. Maybe any job is better than none. It is easy for everyone to say keep going for that one job, but like 3 months in and nothing except a huge dent in my savings, confidence and ability to start my life.
  • HOUSE. Currently living at home with my parents, which is kind and I love being home, but I am ready to move on and start my life, of my own. I have the option to move in with my boyfriend, which I think I would live, finally having a place of my own! But I don’t think he is ready, yet instead of deciding he is dragging the conversation and decision out, which is really stressing me out. I just want to know my options!
  • FRIENDS. Where are they all going?! Everyone is growing up, moving on and moving away, and it is so hard to keep in contact with all of them, I wish I could just keep everyone I love by my side all the time!
  • CROHNS. Well, lets be honest, I couldn’t write a blog post without a mention. I have an appointment at the end of January to discuss medication options and future plans. I don’t think anything will change, but its still nerve wracking to consider.

Okay, before this blog posts becomes an essay I am going to stop. I know it may seem that I am starting this year off on a negative, and maybe I am a little – but I guess that also means that I have the potential to overcome all these issues in 2017, and have a fantastic year.

Be happy and positive

Why the insecurities and the inability to cope?

Hey all,

It has been forever since I have posted, and for that I am sorry. I have got a little caught up in, well, life. So I will break this update down into a few sections, to try and make it less mind-numbingly boring to read.

Part 1 – The Title

So, I am just struggling with life a little at the moment. I have completed my masters, and am therefore awkwardly floating about in the realms of unemployment, volunteering and bankruptcy (perhaps a tad of an exaggeration, but my savings have definitely taken a toll!). It is hard to be positive when nothing appears right, and although on some days I feel confident and excited, others, like today, involve sitting alone in bed, undressed and unmoving until 1 in the afternoon. And nobody knows. and nobody cares. and it impacts nobody. and I am achieveing nothing. And it is all too depressing. I feel as though I may have an aim and a goal, but I am treading water unable to achieve them – and meanwhile being wasteful and unsuccessful and a general nonsense. Which, by the way, is not fun.

Part 2 – The title, again.

So the other part of the title to this blog was about the insecurities. Needless to say I am a very insecure person, and I think perhaps I do not value my own self worth. I am kind, and clever, strong and faithful, and, I like to think, bring support and laughter to those around me. But, it just doesnt seem enough sometimes. My relationship with my boyfriend is being negatively impacted because of it, because of a mixture of things but all of them are too much together. It is the hardest thing in the world to know your mentality is causing issues, but being utterly unable to change it, because it is you. My paranoia and my worrying is as much a part of my personality as my eye colour – and yet I need it to change, but I can’t change it, and that is frustrating and scary and worrying all at once.

The Job hunt

As metioned above, I finally finished my masters (yay) but am yet to get a job (boo). Which is an awkward phase. Am desperate to work within the museum sector, I think it is my calling! Unfortunately my calling is very much on the “please hold” tone – there is pretty much no availablility, and when there is a job I apply for, I am inevitably turned away. Not fun. I have given myself until christmas to try and work really hard on applications, at volunteering, and at building my CV and doing some part time work for money – but so far it is proving more than a little depressing, especially when everyone else in my life appears to be so successful.

The Crohns

This perhaps shouldnt have come last, but it isnt the most exciting topic to blog about – especially when it is being stressful! Okay, perhaps I should’t say stressful, given the issues it has caused in the past, but managing the hospital appointments is just not easy! I have one near the start of Novemeber, but due to the hospital messing up the forms I have been unable to go and get check up blood-tests, which I want, since I am feeling uber fatigued even having done nothing all day, which is clearly not normal. I also have been feeling a few familiar crohns signs again, and want to be on top of it; so the inability to get it tested as regurlarly as I should due to the hospital having incorrect paperwork – is REALLY annoying.

Sorry for the random nature of this post, I will try to be more ontop of posting again, and be more regular!
